U2 is an alternative rock band from Dublin, Ireland. The band consists of Paul Hewson or Bono (vocals and guitar), David Evans or The Edge (guitar, keyboards and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion).
The band was formed in 1976 when its members were teenagers with limited musical training. The band was founded by Larry Mullen Jr. and the original name of the band was “Feedback”, while the original number of members was eight. In 1977 it was renamed, first to “The Hype” and then to its final name, “U2”, as well as its final line-up. “U2”, in their early stages, received many reviews which compared their music to that of Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Clash.
